The route

The peace and tranquillity that you can breathe on the island are priceless, but there is a new stage to be faced and the time comes to leave. After having enjoyed the pleasure of the ferry that takes us back to Punta Navaccia, we finally resume walking. Step by step you get to Tuoro sul Trasimeno, another of the most important municipalities of the Trasimeno area, located on the northern part of the lake, and famous because fory the famous “battle of the Trasimeno”.

In Tuoro sul Trasimeno there is in fact the “Museum of Annibale at Trasimeno”, a site of great cultural and historical interest in front of which you pass along the path just out of the village, and for which you can foresee a visit. Near the museum, there are also the remains of some “ustrina”, in which the corpses of the famous battle were cremated.

Leaving Tuoro, the path continues for Sanguineto, a small village, and then climbs up to the panoramic road, from where one returns to appreciate the lake from above. You go along a ridge that separates Umbria from Tuscany (Cortona can be glimpsed in the distance), and step by step, you reach one of the most evocative places of La Via del Trasimeno. Coming out of a wood, suddenly the view opens up and you have one of the most beautiful views of the lake.

At that point there are also Roman milestones.

Then you get to Gosparini, where you can admire a beautiful landscape, and where you can refresh and eventually stop for the rest of the day. From here, the path begins the slow descent towards Passignano sul Trasimeno, passing through woods and olive groves, up to the “Panta Rei” Center, a center of education and training that focuses on man and the environment, and where it is possible to sleep in the night (dinner included).  Passignano is now near, and after a few kilometers, you arrive in the village.
